In this presentation of our series Sanctions 360° we look into a major power imposing sanctions against a highly unexpected target, the International Criminal Court. At first glance, it is surprising to see the Judges and the Prosecutors of the Court which sole purpose is to do justice to the victims of the most heinous crimes ever committed subject to the same sanctions as terrorist groups, war criminals, or drug traffickers. Yet, this situation illustrates an ever politicised rationale behind introducing economic sanctions these days and is a good opportunity to reflect on their real purpose in our changing world.
