In middle-90s, international sanctions against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia included one of the most comprehensive trade embargos in modern history.
As the tensions de-escalated, so did the sanctions which are currently limited in scale. The region is an important historical precedent of the role of economic sanctions in international politics and the damage they inflict on the civilian population.
