In this video we expand the geographical scope of our series, Sanctions 360, to Belarus. We discuss the main applicable sanctions regimes, their historical background and the current trends.
Despite being a mid-size European country situated at the cross-roads of the EU and Russia and historically / geographically having close ties to both of these key powers, the political development of Belarus over last 30 years made it one of the most sanctioned countries in the world, including from one of its key neighbours, the EU. This results in a clear mismatch between the objective ties which many Belorussians maintain with the EU and the current sanctions’ restrictions which make many relationships complex.
The purpose of the video is to be a starting point for those businesses and individuals who need to navigate through this legal labyrinth.
