One could hardly imagine that the US would impose its blocking sanctions on the basis of speech only. Yet, this is the case of Ms Albanese which makes its noteworthy by itself.
Further, the case is a chilly reminder of the breadth of the US blocking sanctions which, as in Ms Albanese’s case, had very severe consequences for her immediate family members going as far as formally exposing her child to the risk of criminal prosecution for certain interaction with the mother.
This case-study is to emphasise the unprecedented scope of the US sanctions’ programmes and the effect they may have on the lives of private individuals.
