The Democratic Republic of the Congo (the “DRC“) is one of the most critical players in world supply chains in critical metals as well as in addressing the global problem of climate change.
Yet, this objectively huge potential of the DRC is crippled by two wars and on-going civil conflict lasting, by now, for close to 30 years.
With respect to the DRC, one may say that the UN and national sanctions regimes are adequately tailored to address the above on-going instability. Further, as many businesses operate or wish to operate in the DRC, understanding the applicable sanctions risks is also of practical relevance.
