This video is a part of our series Sanctions 360°. We look into a discrete procedural matter of making an interim relief application as a part of JR proceedings which seek to annul blocking sanctions in the EU Courts. Whilst the blocking sanctions have immediate effect on the relevant persons, main JR proceedings may last for a few years. Accordingly, there is a long period of time when a person may be subject to substantial restrictions which, at the end of the day, may be declared unlawful. This creates the risk of committing injustice to such a person. An interim relief application seeking suspension of blocking sanctions up until the judgement in the main proceedings is issued is a legal tool to remedy such an injustice. We consider in this video the main conditions for making such an application as well as discuss the cases when such applications were granted. Thank you for watching!
