2014.02.26 – UNSC Resolution 2140 – Sanctions against Yemen

Attached is the resolution. This is the main resolution imposing sanctions with respect to Yemen. It is subject to renewal. Another UNSC Resolution relevant for sanctions is 2216 which relates to Houthis and former President Saleh.

It imposes a travel ban and asset freeze for a period of one year from the date of the adoption of this resolution against individuals or entities designated by the Committee who engage in or provide support for acts that threaten the peace, security and stability of Yemen; and established for initial period of 13 months the Panel of Experts.

Currently, the assets freeze imposed under resolution 2140 only applies to designated individuals, whereas the Houthis as an entity are only subject to an arms embargo.
